Makeup- My absolute most favorite thing to play with. I am obsessed with it. I am such a GIRL when it comes to this stuff & I get so excited just talking about it.
Two things you can never have enough of: 1. eye shadow & 2. lip gloss. (In my opinion of course) What I mean by that is, you can never own too much. I don't mean you can never wear enough... that's clown-like & I just don't do that.
MAC is my "go-to" place. Their prices are very reasonable & their products last for.eh.verrr. I am also a big fan of MAC, Bobbi Brown, Smash Box, Revlon, and Maybelline. I have a couple of Chanel items but let's face it, their prices are a little ridiculous! I feel like George Banks on Father of the Bride when he complains about paying $1200 for a cake. "A cake Franck, is made of flower & water... my first car didn't cost $1200!" $60 for an eye shadow set?! It's just colored powder!
We all have our obsessions. Mine is makeup. I always, always notice great makeup. I'm currently obsessing over JLo's makeup on American Idol every week. Have you noticed they like to use a lot of purple on her? I have to remember to experiment with purples. I also love the look of the glowing cheeks and eyelids with a bright red or hot pink lip. She's been sportin that look too.
The purpose of this blog will be twofold. (I don't really know if that's how you use that word, but pretend it is b/c I don't feel like dictionary.com-ing it right now.) I will let you in on what I have discovered as the 2011 spring trends in makeup & tell you what some of my favorite everyday makeup products are!
So let's get started with the spring trends!
Bold Lips
The lip color shades are reds, oranges and hot pinks. When you do a bold lip, the rest of your makeup needs to stick as natural as possible. I like to do a cream shimmer shadow on my eyes & a soft pink blush. Finish emphasizing your eyelashes by using black colored mascara.
Natural makeup
Yet again, makeup artists can’t seem to get enough of the “natural look” this season. You may be thinking… Natural Makeup...Say wha?? That’s like an oxymoron. The two words don’t seem to go together. BUT! You can create this look. You can still apply your face powder like you would normally do, then define your cheeks subtly with a small touch of blush. Apply some light mascara on your eyelashes and keep your lips bare or apply a subtle, natural looking lipstick or lip gloss. Or even chapstick!
Bright eye makeup
Choosing to add a great amount of attention towards the eyes can be a great option. Alert! May appear clown-like! Beware! Since I LOVE eye shadow, I tend to have lots of fun with my eye shadow on a daily basis. This season, bold colors such as orange, pink, green & blue, are ones you should play with. I personally haven't done any of the above colors... yet! When doing such a bold eye, make sure you don't overdo your blush and lip color. Go for a soft blush and neutral lip.
Smokey eye makeup
It seems that the smokey eye look will never lose its beauty and it's no surprise why. It flatters just about everyone! Creating a smokey eye is something I am still practicing. There are several YouTube videos out there to learn from... but it's all about the practice. Don't try to accomplish this look on your first try & expect to be seen in public without getting sympathy looks. I am pretty sure I resembled a raccoon on my first attempt. Either that, or I ran into the wall face first. But, with a little bit of practice one can master this eye makeup technique. I like to use black on the lid & a lighter brown in the crease.
And now for a look inside my makeup bag…
What do I use on a daily basis you ask? Well, let me tell you. Let’s take a look inside my makeup bag… I will just take you through the eye shadows, blush & lip gloss I have on today. Maybe in another blog I will share my favorite face makeup products… or maybe I’ll vlog about it. Still timid with the vlog thing… we’ll see!
On my cheeks I have MAC’s Mineralized Blush – the color is called Gentle. It’s a very pretty pink shimmery color. You can go subtle or dramatic with it. But it gives that “glow” look I love!
On my eyes I have three colors. All over my eye I have Revlon’s eye shadow in Sunlit Sparkle. I get asked about this color every.single.day. No exaggeration. Go get it! You can wear it with everything or by itself. It’s a very pretty cream color with a little bit of sparkle. On my eyeball area… the “dome” (that sounds funny), I have MAC’s pigment color in Jardin Aires. Now this is also a color I get asked about non-stop. It is super shimmery & gives a lot of glow to the lid. In my crease I have MAC’s eye shadow color in Cork. It’s a tan/brown color.
On my lips I am wearing MAC’s Creamsheen Glass lip gloss in Fashion Scoop. I happened to stumble upon this color because they were out of my absolute fav Boy Bait (which is also a must-have). Fashion Scoop is a pretty cotton candy pink color. Goes with a lot!
And there you have it ladies and gentlemen! (Yes, you are a guy & you just read my blog about makeup. And it's ok because no one will ever have to know!) I realize it’s very long, but if you are into this kind of stuff, it’s a good read if I do say so myself J If you ever have a question about anything in specific feel free to ask. I have probably tried it all and I would love to give my input :)
